how do you become better at running lines and angles when attacking with the ball in rugby

Brian

There are many ways you can try to get your players to become more aware of being efficient at where they run in attack. A simple fix is to ask them to run at the inside shoulder of the defender in front of them - this helps commit the defender as if the defender moves across too quickly then the dummy pass may be on.

I have attached a simple drill that you could adapt by putting 1 or more defenders in and asking your attackers to score by beating the defender(s).

The key point is that the ball can be passed quicker than a player can run and so a good pass will always beat the defender if the timing is right and the support player is running at the right depth and angle.

I hope this helps and other coaches may contribute their ideas as well.
